NYS Service Highlights
- This year the New York Division of Disability Determinations is expecting to process 275,000 Federal disability claims under Social Security and Supplemental Security Income criteria.
- 70,000 individuals who are receiving disability benefits will have their claims evaluated to determine whether they continue to meet the Federal requirements for disability benefits. Over 85% will continue to be found disabled.
- The Division of Disability Determinations will hold 5,000 hearings to ensure those receiving benefits are re-evaluated with full understanding of the claimants impairments and the impact on the ability to function in a work environment.
- It generally takes approximately three months for the disability team to gather all of the medical and vocational information, evaluate the impact on daily activities, make a determination and process it through the Federal system.
- Claimants usually receive notification of the decision within 15 days after a determination is made.
